Job Title: Placement Design Engineer

Reporting to: Design Team Leader / Placement Coordinator

Hours of Work: Monday – Thursday 8am to 5pm, Friday 8am to 1pm

Wipac Technology Limited is Europe’s leading automotive lighting designer and manufacturer for luxury and supercar markets. We supply headlamps and rear lamps for many of the world’s most iconic car brands. Wipac has grown significantly in recent years and was sold to a large Chinese corporation Anrui Optoelectronics at the end of 2019.  Anrui have a strong desire to invest significantly and continue to grow their share of the European and North American automotive lighting markets.   Wipac is focussed on its transformation to be a world-class manufacturer and as such wants to attract the best individuals who have the drive and commitment to contribute to the positive change of the business. 


Main purpose:

Design and development of Automotive LED lighting products for OEM projects.  

Key Responsibilities:

• 3-D design and drafting of components and assemblies using CATIA V5.

• Support & integration of optical and electronic designs.

• Practical support to technical laboratories

• Benchmarking of competitor products.

• Problem tracking and continuous improvement of current products.

• Preparation of DFMEA’s and design related project documents.

• Support design teams in Prototyping & experiment design

• Participate in design department continuous improvement projects

Requirements, and Qualifications

• Role is available for a minimum of 32weeks, to a maximum of 48weeks, Holiday and Salary will be pro-rata)

• To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree• At least one year on your studies at the time of taking up the placement

• As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM subject. (e.g. Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Physics)

• Confident use of engineering physics & mathematics, with strong grades at GCSE, A level or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

• Good team working and communications skills

. • Good PC skills including Microsoft Office. 

• Experience of 2D and 3D CAD modelling in Catia or similar software package.

 • Experience of CAE simulation, either FEA or CFD in Ansys or similar software package.

 • Knowledge of design for manufacture, including injection moulding.

 • Knowledge of advanced prototyping methods & materials.
